At Omotesando street, Tokyo
Loafer shoes have been around since the 1930′s but it was not until 1970 that became an essential part of the Preppy look. The penny loafer a different variation, got a boost in popularity when famous people such as actor James Dean, President John F. Kennedy and singer Michael Jackson wore them in public. Now have become a new favorite style of shoe for the fashion-forward set. Been many labels and designers out there that make them, my favorite brand for loafer shoes is Sebago, however Prada, Dsquared2 and especially Berluti make beautiful fine crafted ones.
I really like this look. I know, when we think of Tokyo and a Lolita, straight away comes to our mind a teenager with a Victorian dress looking like a Japanese anime character and yes, that is totally right, however the term is also used in fashion, far from having any sexual connotations, as something cute. I won’t deny that the secret name of Dolores in the Vladimir Nabokov novel was none other than the same name of the title from this post, but In the case of the fashion, the term “Lolita” only refers to the child-like nature of some of the clothes and is also used because of the beauty or cuteness of the name.
The handbag she is wearing is amazing.
Omotesan’s Streets, Tokyo
Today was a great fun day. I was shooting around Omotesando’s streets again but this time with my friend Taiki who helped me enormously at the time to approach people and explain to them that I really would like to have their picture taken.
Then we had some lunch at the rooftop terrace on the new Tokyu Plaza shopping Mall which is worthy of a visit if you are in the area. There is two eating places, a formal restaurant and a big Starbucks with a great selection of sandwiches and snacks to choose from. The place has a very Japanese feel to it, artificial gardens, wooden floors and a variation of design chairs, chess lounges, hamacas or swim chairs layered all out around the terrace for you to sit and relax while you are having your food, coffee or a chat with your friends. Also overlooking the city, the views can be enjoyed.
Then i spotted the subject of today’s photograph. I thought this vintage look was great and thought the shirt was amazing. He told me later it was from a second hand shop in the United States, love it !
But the highlight of the day was when my friend Taiki introduced me to this amazing vintage shop in the area. Allegedly this sort of “Aladdin’s cove” is visited and almost emptied on a regular basis by Mr Slimane every time he is in town, and to be honest if that is the case I really can see why he would do such a thing. But that and the shop it self will be material for another post or should I keep this place secret as it is to be protected from getting spoiled by hungry tourists ?
